Westward Bound – The Fairline Parkway
It’s a lazy Sunday afternoon, which demands the appropriate soundtrack. For today, it’s this track from The Fairline Parkway. Sounding like an old Mojave 3 b-side, or a track from The Clientele on one of their less mournful days, it’s got the gently ebbing tones and hushed percussion to keep you endlessly enthralled. The problem I often have with this kind of quiet folksy music is that the melody ends up drowned by the slow pace and dearth of peaks and valleys. No worry of that happening here. Where many would run the risk of fading into gray, The Fairline Parkway throw open the windows and let the gentle summer sun shine through.
The album is called A Memory of Open Spaces, which is precisely what it sounds like.
