Some great new stuff from Ani Difranco.
Ever prolific, she’s got another release due out next week, called Red Letter Year. I still haven’t heard the whole thing, but am excited to get ahold of it. My enthusiasm is particularly magnified by her recent Daytrotter session. To my ears “Present/Infant” sounds like the best thing I’ve heard from her since Revelling/Reckoning.
I love that she is driven to experiment with her sound, but ultimately I find her at her most charming, most touching, and most devastating when it’s just her and her guitar. And it’s particularly interesting to hear an older, most wise Ani and still be able to trace out how she emerged from that precocious young girl who sang “Both Hands” so long ago.
