2006 was the year for the 60s inspired girl group sound, not to mention for a profusion of awesome twee-pop. It’s a big part of what made it one of my favorite all-time years for music. Sadly, I haven’t found all that much in either genre since then that piqued my interest.
I Want You Back – The School
Fortunately, along comes The School. Think Camera Obscura except, you know, Welsh. They’ve got an EP called Let It Slip that came out a few months back. It’s refreshing, vibrant, a sheer pleasure. Just try and listen to the chorus of “I Want You Back” and not be filled with joy. It can’t be done. It’s a strong candidate for chorus of the year – can you think of one better?
If you’re looking for a little bit of earnest, twee-infused Northern Soul, you’ll definitely want to give The School a listen.
