Yes we still do talk about music here. If you’re sick of all the political chat, well, it’s probably not going to stop. But I can promise more actual music-centered posts in the upcoming weeks.
One of the big breakout artists of 2007 for me was Kate Nash. As much as I love sophisticated music, and as much as I want indie cred, I have no problem admitting how much I love a well-crafted and idiosyncratic pop song. And last year Kate Nash had three or four of the best entries in that genre in a long, long time. Sadly, there has been very little this year to follow in her footsteps.
Forty Five 45s – Shrag
Until this little track from Shrag, that is. A bit more lo-fi and punk rock, but that same awkward swagger remains front and center. And in terms of content, it’s pitch perfect: a track about a stack of ruined records torn apart by some failed relationship or another.
