He denies the world but it is himself that he denies

More songs I failed to post about last year…

Black Birds – The Ghost Orchid

I know very little about The Ghost Orchid, except that they put together beautiful little slices of instrumental electronic pop. This one is is quiet and lovely, beckoning with a smile, but making no demands. It glides smoothly along a gentle electronic beat, while the keyboard offers minute variations on a theme. It makes me think of cherry blossoms in the spring.

Bees Bein’ Strugglin’ – The Octopus Project
An Evening With Rthrtha – The Octopus Project

The Octopus Project produces a more insistent form of the same music. The sound is more brazen, more emphatic, more joyful. It moves more quickly, dipping and diving through walls of artificial sound. Both these tracks are from 2007’s excellent Hello, Avalanche.

Brightness – Organic Stereo

One more variation on the theme is this selection from Organic Stereo, which sounds exactly like you’d expect from their name. It’s got more of the glitches and tripped little beats than the others, but also offers a far more…well, for lack of a better word…organic interaction between the electronics, the gently rising hints of strings, the keyboards which dart in and out like they’re playing a game of hide-and-seek with all the other sounds.
