Just a short entry today.
Revelry – Sea Ray
I don’t really know much about Sea Ray. They’ve got kind of a Cure thing going on. Sort of. And they have lots of strings. And maybe they’re not really that much like the Cure. Anyways, I found out about them because I bought the album Live at KEXP, which kicks off with this song. I prefer this live version to the studio one, mostly because it feels a looser, more organic. A bubbly guitar opens the song, then the strings move in. After a slow buildup come the vocals. The singer doesn’t have a particularly amazing voice and I find it a little annoying on some of their songs, but it fits very well with this song. There is an extended instrumental period in the middle and then a short final verse as the song trails down.
Sea Ray broke up a while ago, which is kind of a shame, but I still haven’t heard all of the stuff they put out while they were together. So I’ve still got some chances to explore.
