A few weeks ago I posted about David Ford. Since then, I was pointed to the video for his song “State of the Union.” It’s fascinating, and anyone who liked the song the first time around should check it out.
Ford played most of the instruments on the album himself, and the video provides stark evidence of this. It is an extended jamming version of the song (around 8 minutes), filmed in one take. The trick is, with the help of a looping machine, Ford plays everything himself. It begins quietly, but as the song slowly builds he moves around the room adding layer upon layer to the ever-growing wall of sound. Like many tributaries flowing into a stream, the end result is a torrential current. It’s definitely worth checking out.
