I’ve mentioned Architecture in Helsinki a few times in passing, so I thought I might as well do a full post on them. Perhaps the foremost avant-twee group in the world (though I’m not sure how large the competition is) and with a great name to boot, how could I not love them?
Their most recent album is 2005’s In Case We Die, a twee-tinged rock opera full of movements and strings and all kinds of fun.
This is my favorite track from that record. Most obvious are the wide range of instruments (guitars, brass, even a sitar) and vocals (male and female, alone and together for some nice choral harmonies) deployed, as well as the groovy beat. This is a fun song that casts its net widely. If you like this song, you can also check out a number of remixes courtesy of The Hype Machine.
They have a new record in the works, scheduled to come out sometime in the first half of 2007.
