I’ve talked on a number of occasions about Antarctica Takes It! (including making their debut record my #12 record of the last decade). Well, if you like them anywhere close to as much as me, here’s your chance to support a well-deserving indie band. Dylan McKeever (the guy behind the operation) is recording the new record and is looking for small donors who can pledge a few bucks to get the whole thing done.
C&F – Antarctica Takes It!
The first song is out, and it’s just as good as you’d expect. The production values have been amped up a bit but none of the frantic energy has been lost. And fittingly, given the long hiatus since the last time we’ve heard from them, it’s a song about how joyful it is to simply be back out here singing and playing. It’s one of those tracks that has so many brilliant moments you can hardly believe that it’s only three minutes long. It’s like they’ve packed several years worth of pent-up ideas into one brilliant explosion.
It’s got a lot of that 60s era vim and vigor, with words that seem to stumble over themselves with how eager they are to get out into the bright spring sun. And, as always, the instruments bring the magic, with a great little bass beat, skittering piano, string, horns, and anything else you’d ever want.
So seriously, go and give 10 bucks, guarantee yourself a copy of Constellations when it’s completed, and help get some more wonderful music out into the world.
