Sunday provocations

I’ve decided to start a new feature.  It’s called Sunday Provocations.  The basic thesis is that I make some provocative point, but make no effort to explain my reasoning or the logic behind it.

Your job, gentle reader, is to tell me why I’m wrong.  Or, I suppose, you could agree with me if you’re so inclined.

Today’s is pretty simple.  Best album of all time: I think it’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.  Someone convince me that I’m wrong.

NMH is good, sure. But it’s kind of idiosyncratic, don’t you think? Stacked up against Highway 61, Thriller, Purple Rain, Exile on Main Street, not to mention tons of choices from Radiohead or the The Beatles? No way.

Not only my choice of album, but my (usual) favorite song off of it as well. Thoroughly agree.

  3. Pip says:

It could have been. If only Mangum could have prevented the release of Blonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan and Either/Or by Elliott Smith in some kind of time machine.
