Shorter Mitt Romney: I’m totally different from Bush in that I value good things and he was a bad president who by definition cannot have valued good things because his five-point plan didn’t work. My completely identical five-point plan, however, will rule. Because I value good things.

Hard to know whether to laugh or cry.
What is it about our system that incentivizes the idea that if your policies demonstrably fail, you should just advocate them more stridently than you did last time? Are we, as Americans, really that afraid of admitting “okay… I was wrong about that; let’s try something else.” I’m not saying that Republicans should endorse Democratic plans (though that would be keen). I’m asking why they can’t come up with a different alternative than they did the last time.
